I am so excited that I could burst! Summer has officially begun in our home! Two and a half months with my four chickadees under my wings.
But I know that not everyone shares my excitement. To help you thrive this summer, I have pulled together some great tips and ideas!
Summer is the time for my family to focus on character issues and academic goals, grow in our relationship with God, and make memories as a family – all while allowing our four children to be kids and play. But all of this can be very difficult to do without a plan. Not something rigid, but a guide to help you manage each day.
Because they are home all day, summer provides additional time to train our kiddos to help around our home. With ages 8-14, we will spend a lot of time this year in the kitchen planning and cooking meals. No matter the age of your children, there are age-appropriate contributions that your kiddos can do for your family. This provides your children the gift of work and can be a great tool to teach budgeting.
Preschoolers: If you are using an ABCJesusLovesMe Curriculum, I encourage you to not take off the summer. Instead, take the learning outside. Discuss colors while taking a walk. Write letters with sidewalk chalk. Read a book while sitting under a tree.
Older Children: Beyond reading, we use summer to work on math tables (e.g. addition, division) as these are core to all basic and complex problems. The kids will also work on keyboarding (typing) for accuracy and speed. And finally, we will work on spelling.
Enjoy your summer!
